Bradley Arant has the largest group of patent attorneys in Alabama and Mississippi and one of the largest groups in the Southeast, with attorneys experienced in virtually all technology disciplines across-the-board. One attorney holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry with a law degree from the University of Virginia Law School, and concentrates on biotechnical matters, while our electrical engineer patent attorneys have years of technical experience, one of them as an IBM manufacturing test engineer for network computers and mobile systems, and another as a designer of programmable controller systems for GE/Japanese joint venture. Other Bradley Arant patent attorneys handle chemical, environmental, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, and even nuclear engineering patent matters.

All of our patent attorneys do trademark and copyright work, while still other attorneys in our IP group concentrate on trademark and copyright subjects.

The Firm is especially strong in intellectual property litigation, having tried many of the leading cases in Alabama, and is equally strong in licensing technology and trademarks - both in the United States and in foreign countries - in addition to its patent and trademark prosecution work. The Firm monitors many hundreds of clients' intellectual properties on a worldwide basis.

Bradley Arant has been in the forefront of internet and e-commerce law, representing some very successful e-commerce businesses in their intellectual property and financing needs. We have litigated in federal court, and in arbitrations before ICANN, concerning ownership of domain names, and one of our attorneys is editor of an e-commerce magazine. We have also served as expert witnesses in patent and trademark cases in Alabama and elsewhere.

Four Bradley Arant partners are listed in the Intellectual Property section of The Best Lawyers in America®, and one of them is also listed under the Business Litigation and two other categories of The Best Lawyers in America® (the Firm has approximately 82 Best Lawyers listings total, in 43 different categories). Two of the intellectual property lawyers are members of the prestigious American Law Institute, and two of them are members of the editorial board of the world's premier publication on trademark law, The Trademark Reporter®.

Bradley Arant lawyers took the lead in establishing the highly successful Biotechnology Association of Alabama, Inc. and some of its attorneys have served as officers in that organization. The Firm also participated in the establishment of the Alabama Information Technology Association and is active in that organization. Bradley Arant partners were active participants in the drafting of the Alabama Trade Secrets Act and the Alabama Trademark Act. Bradley Arant partners have also served as Adjunct Professors of Patent Law and of Copyright Law at the University of Alabama School of Law and Cumberland Law School. Attorneys in the Firm have lectured nationally and even abroad on intellectual property subjects, and have written scholarly books, book chapters and articles on the subject.
