The Community Bankers Association of Alabama , in partnership with Bradley Arant, will host a conference call for member banks on Monday, November 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with the latest information on the TARP program. | Scott Burnett Smith, a founding member of the Appellate Litigation Group, has been selected to serve on the Defense Research Institute’s Amicus Committee. This committee is made up of six appellate lawyers and one trial lawyer selected from across the country. On December 3, 2008, Bradley Arant will host "Amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act Lunch & Learn". Anne R. Yuengert will address how Congress has expanded the definition of “disability” and changed how courts consider “mitigating measures.” These changes will make it easier for a plaintiff to survive summary judgment and will likely increase the number of disability cases. Come hear about the amendments that become effective on January 1, 2009 and what you can do to prepare for them.

10/28/2008 HealthSouth Settlement Reached in UBS Lawsuit |
| Our client, HealthSouth Corp., recently entered into a settlement with UBS Securities, LLC regarding UBS’s role in the fraud that occurred at HealthSouth during the time Richard Scrushy ran HealthSouth. If the court approves the settlement in this derivative action, HealthSouth will receive $100 million in cash and forgiveness of an approximately $33 million judgment in favor of UBS AG against HealthSouth in a case on appeal to the Second Circuit. All counterclaims against HealthSouth by UBS will also be dropped as part of this settlement. We are pleased to have represented HealthSouth in securing this result.
